Garden Inventor is a tower defense games that is themed around gardens. You have to build different kinds of flowers or lawn gnomes to defend against insects. Unlike most TD’s, it isn’t a single level play-through and you have to play many different zones in order to beat the game. Each zone poses its own challenges with a boss at the end. There are a lot of combinations you can do and this game requires lots of selling and re-buying to achieve your goals but it is a very fun and interesting game to play. I’ve written a walkthrough for some of the zones. Click on the “click here, I am a walkthrough” link to view. |
Click me, I am a walkthrough
Stage 1:
This Zone is very easy. Just buy the cactus plants. Buy 2 of by and put them at turn spots and upgrade them equally as soon as you get the money. On the last boss you will need to do some selling and re-buying. Wait until the boss passes the first two turn spots and let your towers shoot until he passes. The immediately sell those towers and buy two more cactus towers at the last two turn spots. You get full price for selling so upgrade the two towers you just bought to the same level and that is enough to kill the boss.
Stage 2:
Like zone one, selling and re-buying costs nothing so don’t be shy about it. Its the only way to win. All you need are cactus plants again. Basically this zone involves buying upgrading, selling, and moving your cactus plants around. Do not be afraid to upgrade and then sell, only to buy another cactus plants and upgrading to the same level. You have to time this zone correctly as some of the creeps don’t wait for the last wave to die off before spawning. But you should at least be able to move one of your cactus to two locations on each wave. That, combined with the max possible upgrades, should be enough to win the level.
On the boss, sell everything and upgrade one cactus to the max you can, that should be enough to kill him. If he passes it, don’t worry. Just sell it and put it at a later location along the path. He is easily killable.
Stage 3:
Much the same as zone two, although to start, you will want to put your flowers at the beginning of the path and if the creeps get past, sell and then put it later on in the path. Upgrade to the max you can each time. It only takes buying/selling two cactus plants to actually beat the level.
Stage 4:
This level was like level 3 where I started with two cactus plants near the start but that allowed me to kill the waves fast and push “next wave” and get me some extra cash. With this extra cash, it allowed me to buy upgrades very quickly and I was able to kill everything near the start for nearly the entire round. Towards the end I had to sell some towers and buy them further down the map. For the boss I just used 1 tower upgraded to max and a upgraded water sprinkler to slow bugs down. It was easy to beat the 4th level and clear the first house.
Be back with more once I play the other houses, have fun. This game is a lot more micro that other TD’s.

please help with level 8!!
September 27th, 2008 at 7:30 am
All the levels are pretty much the same. Its the while concept of micromanaging buying/selling that lets you beat all of them. You really only need 1 or 2 types of towers.
In the later levels you want to have several cactus plants or rocket gnomes built beforehand at different spots and just upgrade the right one with the money sold from the last one(build the last one back as soon as you sell it) and you can get through pretty much all except for the last house.

I’m really addicted to this game and I’m pretty far ahead on level 14 but I just can’t seem to make it, I’ve tried pretty much everything and I know that only cactus plants and rocket gnomes probably do the trick but the fast fliers always kill me around level 40. The pathway is pretty hard, no places to put towers so they can hit the bugs enough so I can beat the level… What can I do?!?! I see that Admin has nailed it but I’m just doing something wrong that I can’t figure out!! HELP!
October 8th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Its a buying and selling strategy. Remember you get 100% money back so on the flier levels, sell the cactus or rockets and buy net gnomes and then just sell those on the non-flying levels. Also buy a sprinkler to help with ground insects. You can always swap positions of the towers to get more hits in .

I can’t beat Level 11. It’s driving me NUTZ!! How do I get past it? I have tried using 4x-upgraded cactuses and 2x-upgraded Rocket Gnomes and a few Flier Gnomes. I still can’t do it. It’s those damn worms that get me everytime.

I can’t get passed lv 14! There are gnomes everywhere that fits, water fountain on every corner, upgraded 2-3 times and still can’t pass it. wth am I doing wrong? o.O
December 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
This game is not about perfect placement of towers, its about selling and re-buying. You can sell for 100% of the price you buy something for.

I have finished all 20 levels and found 14 the hardest without doubt.
The tip for level 14 is to have 3 cactus (3 and 4 upgrades) on each corner and 2 gnomes (2 upgrades) in the middle of the grass area for maximum effect
The fast flying insects are too quick for heavy ammo at the starting end of the pathway so you need to concentrate on getting the all of the pathway covered i.e. upgrade start middle and end with equal amounts.
Hope this helps
Cheers.

At level 17, micromanaging and all of that and towers of various types… primarily cactus ones built up to level 3 at least still don’t do the 4000 point worms any good… like all these tower type games the money earned isn’t enough to ensure a fighting chance. Takes too long to build up enough money which doubles each time on each tower with each upgrade…
I understand and appreciate a challenge but not against a stacked deck… plus subtracting 2 points for each pest that gets by you (worms and mosquitoes) isn’t helping make the game fair enough.
Don’t want to try to imagine what the remaining levels are like.
Getting frustrated after playing at least once a day for over 3 months… if the value = money of the pests were higher than what they are now per level then perhaps there is a chance.

I’m also stuck on level 14, can anyone help with specific advice? I know admin said it’s about buying and reselling, and I get that, but on level 14 there aren’t that many turns in the maze and it seems to go pretty fast to continually be buying and selling. I must be doing it wrong if it works, any advice would be helpful, particularly anything with specific tower type details, etc…. Thanks so much.

On 14, put defenses at the beginning and near the end to give yourself the max time for micro.
March 2nd, 2009 at 8:08 am
Thank you so much for your quick response! I will try this, I assume it means I essentially ignore the middle section which I have been using quite a bit so it could make a big difference. This level has driven me crazy. Thanks!!!

Another way is to plot some level 1 always at various points on the path so you can always quickly upgrade them for damage. 14 may be the hardest map on the whole game.
March 11th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
If anyone has successfully completed level 14, please post your game plan in complete detail.
March 14th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Level 14
On the first 10 levels you can send new waves at 17-18 seconds.
Cactus inside 1st corner & second corner.Build these up to upgrade #4. After upgrade #3 put water [no upgrades] directly above beginning vertical path in middle section, and another on the bottom of 1st horizontal path on far right side. While waiting for money, place another cactus around beginning and build up until you can upgrade base cactus then sell.
Make five rocket gnomes like the shape of a 5 on a dice in the middle section starting one space from right vertical path, build these to upgrade #1.
Make two more waters directly above others on top horizontal path left one in middle and right one on top.
Make 5 or 6 more cactus one at a time to upgrade 3 and place around water.
Upgrade 5 rocket gnomes to upgrade 2 then start filling path with upgrade #3 cactus and one more water at end.

Okay, after a month or so of working on it, I finally beat level 14. I tried a ton of strategies and finally won. Here’s how.
I begin with cacti. Typically what I do is put them at corners, starting with the closest corners first. This will dispatch of the bugs fairly easily. I upgrade the cacti when I can. Then, when I get enough money, I start swapping the cacti for rocket launchers in the same spots. I fill the middle patch of land with three rows of rocket launchers, three in each row (so basically the whole area in the middle is full. I also put about three rocket launchers on the first corner. I upgrade the rocket launchers as money provides, starting with the rocket launchers that cover the most ground. This a a VERY good base to work with.
Now for the buying and selling to stay on top of things. This is actually very simple. The worms will cause the most problems in the beginning, so I will put a fountain right below the second turn and swap it out for a fountain above the third turn if neccessary, upgrading either as money provides. As soon as the worms are gone, I sell the fountain and upgrade my rocket launchers with the money. Some of the flying bugs will create a problem too, so will will place a net shooter a couple inches to the left of the third turn to dispatch of them, upgrading the net shooter as money provides. Again, as soon as the flying pests are gone, I use the money from the net shooter to upgrade my rocket launchers.
I think I finished the level with about ten lives left.
There you go! Hopefully that works for others. At the very least it will spread some creativity and influence different approaches.

Thanks Rich & Lance & Connor. I didn’t see your post before posting mine. It looks like our approaches are very similar.
March 16th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
ok… i figured out level 14 and beat all 20.
The key is MAXIMIZE YOUR MONEY by starting the next wave as quickly as possible while placing then upgrading your towers. That is… for the first 30 to 40 waves or so. Then you just want the clock to run out while you delete and build towers to face the various land and air bugs.
Another key is to know the sequence of waves… it’s always: slow speed worms (land), regular speed land, regular speed air, regular speed land, regular speed air, fast speed air, then repeat. Know this sequence well for you will have to anticipate what kind of bug is coming next in order to build the corresponding tower. Also knowing the speed sequence is key to maximizing money because you can allow different amounts of time in between waves as needed.
The sequence of build and send is this:
as soon as the screen appears, hit the send next wave button.
when you place your towers at corners maximize their hits by placing them as far away from the corner as possible while still having the road sides and corner within the range of the tower.
build cactus at 2nd corner (from entrance) then 3rd corner… allows for build time while bugs are moving.
send next… then cactus at 1st corner.
send next… then cactus on right of last corner near exit.
send next… upgrade cactus corner 1.
send next… upgrade corner 2 then 3… by this time money is building up by killing the first bugs.
send next… upgrade corner 4.
you will have to try several times to get the rhythm of building and sending and upgrading… keep sending waves and upgrading the 4 towers you have in the order of closest to entrance to closest to exit. Don’t build more than 4 towers… fewer, yet stronger towers are usually more effective than many, wimpy towers.
at the beginning, you can send waves really quickly… easily scoring 25 gold for each wave (which you will use to quickly upgrade your towers).
after you have all 4 towers upgraded to $100 (next upgrade is $200), when you get your next $100 then build a rocket launcher in the middle of your open space… not right next to the road, but one space to the left.
At your next $100 upgrade rocket 1… at your next $100, build another rocket to the left of the first one in the middle area.
At another $100 upgrade rocket 2… at next $100, build rocket 3 above rocket 1 then upgrade it.
Then build rocket 4 below rocket 1.
Then build a fountain in the space you didn’t build your first rocket at… to the left of the road in the middle area… upgrade it to $200.
Somewhere around this point, your cactus can no longer earn their cost in damage and it’s time to start selling them.
Here’s where knowing the sequence of waves comes in…
Sell cactus 1 and 3… then build a (specialty tower): laser if the next wave is land, or net if the next wave is air. then sell cactus 2 and 4 and upgrade your specialty tower
build the tower at the 1st corner and upgrade it as much as you can… then here’s the key to the whole level… when the bugs have past and your tower no longer is firing, sell it and (if the bugs are still progressing) build the same kind of tower near the exit (usually to the right of the last corner) and max upgrade it.
it’s a good idea to build a tower at the entrance and max upgrade it, then build a tower at the end when you have the money. that way when the bugs pass the first tower, you don’t have to wait for the exit tower to be built… you can just sell the entrance tower and quickly upgrade the exit tower with the money gained from that sale.
One of the tricky things to figure out is when to upgrade your rockets… and you will be upgrading all of them.
when you have enough for a rocket tower upgrade, don’t do it… allow enough money for the other specialty tower and several upgrade levels (at least 2 or 3)… and even enough for an exit tower.
when you have enough to spare in between rounds (a good rule of thumb is you have twice the amount of money it takes to upgrade the rocket), then upgrade the rockets one at a time as money allows.
just keep track of the sequence of the waves… land, land, air, land, air, air, repeat… delete the entrance specialty tower when it no longer is of use (unless the exit tower is not required because your rockets are strong enough to take care of the rest of the wave or because the next wave is killed by that kind of tower)… keep upgrading your rockets (all through the same level, then the next level)… have patience…
you can do it…

Now I am at level 17 wondering how I am going to figure this out.
March 21st, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I beat the whole game. If anyone wants tips, feel free to ask.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Could someone post a couple of screenshots on how they beat level 14? Like, one taken mid-game and another near the end?
The descriptions given here in comments have been helpful… but I’m still getting murdered. x.x
Thanks.

Ok, all you do is the same stinking strat. (I’m not telling you guys where to put the plants cuz it should be common sense where a good spot would be) buy a rose, (you gotta do this fast) you buy it place it and right when you place it send the next wave and when its built (if you did it fast enough) you can upgrade it twice at the start. play and send waves til you can upgrade it to lvl 3, once its lvl 3 build another rose, play til you up that one to 3, then buy another rose, place it, play, send waves, make it lvl 3, then up the first one you placed to lvl 4 when you can, then buy a cactus, up it to lvl 3 when you can, then up your 2nd rose to lvl 4, then buy another cactus bring it to 3 then up your 3rd rose to 4, up the first cactus to 4, buy another up it to 3, up 2nd cactus to 4, and if you have not noticed the pattern so far, your fault you shouldn’t play these games. Keep this pattern and you can pass all the levels if you do everything correctly. (If you need help with those damn worms, either a fountain would be good around wherever the most towers would shoot them.

After agggges i finally beat level 14! here’s how i did it:
started off with two cactus, at the 2nd and 3rd corner. I upgrade them up to level 3.
next i placed a rocket launcher in the middle of the big square. then i added 2 more right next to it so i had 1 cactus and 2 rockets right next to each other near the 2nd corner.
Next placed one rocket launcer in the first smaller square.
once that was done i waited to get money and built up all rockets to level 1.
I placed 2 water fountains – one near the first corner and 1 near the second. I then upgraded all rockets to level2.
Get rid of catus and place rockets there, upgrade to level 2
Next built up some more money and placed another 2 rockets in first square and 2 more towards the end of the big square. built them to level 2 aswell.
Now here’s the part that worked. when the ladybirds had gone past the first few rockets, sell the 2 corner rockets and replace with 2 of the net gnomes and upgrade level2. this meant that the next 2 lots of flying insects were quickly dealt with. As soon as the last flyers past these gnomes, i sold them and replaced back with rockets.
after a few runs, made a thrid net towards the end of the path and used this to change back and forth to rocket.
once i got money i upgraded as much as i could to level 3.
That worked, as i couldn’t get through the flying insects with just rockets.

I was stuck on 14 forever ..
Now,,that I undestand the game .. it is so easy to play.
you shoudn’t need anymore than 2 cacti to start.
( try to be near the starting point – in corners)
the idea,,to beat any level is always use #2 cacti to double your first one.
ie: when you have 2 cacti @ 200 – sell the farther one, double the front cacti,,then rebuy the 2nd and replace it,in the same place and upgrade. you will get the front cacti to max then buy
a 3rd and redo to build cacti #2. and so on.then when #2 is at 400..sell / double front cacti to max 800 and replace cacti #2 at 25 .. just keep upgrading it / the points come fast … it works so well.
be aware – near the end – set a cacti at the end corner – if any bugs get by #2 cacti / sell #1 and quickly upgrade the #3. – rebuy #2 and replace – kill bugs w #3 / sell #3 – upgrade #2.
after red beetles – sell all farther cacti and buy nets ,,
1 max net is abouut all you need to beat flies / and one on 200-400 to keep .. as you can sell the max and upgrade net #2 as needed.
after purple bugs / sell all nets to upgrade cacti. except 1 rebuy to upgrade as needed.
i beat levels14 -20 without need of rockets ..
(I did buy some @ max to see)
