Unholy Island is a strategy game where you play the role of an dead skeleton pirate who has been cursed by the Kraken to be stuck on an island. Unfortunately other “live” pirates have found the island and now you must use the weapons at your disposal and spawn minions to protect it. Its a very well built game but has a few minor issues such as the barrels being hard to grab at times. But despite a few minor glitches, it is still a good strategy game that deserves some play time.

You can use either the arrows or the mouse and arrows to move and rotate. I found moving with the mouse and arrow a lot easier, especially after you’ve grabbed something. Its just easier to click and hold rather than rotating and then moving with the arrows. This game has both an action and strategy mode which play differently. I always played the strategy mode which depends more on the placing of the cannons and minions to kill ships rather than the manual hacking and slashing of your sword. In this mode, the main thing are your cannons(and sometimes command minions which you can buy in the shop) I always placed many of them (surrounded by barrels of course) on the right side to blow apart the ship right when they come. I usually sold everything else except barrels and cannons to buy more cannons and spawn more minions. The last cannon I always kept for myself. I liked concentrating firepower because you can knock out the ships before they get too much of a chance to fire back. As you get more cannons and minions, command minions become necessary and you will eventually have to do some hacking and slashing as well. Playing on normal takes a bit of skill so if your looking for some casual play, I’d suggest easy. Go through the tutorial as it will help you understand the basic mechanics of the game. River Defense is a DTD clone that is somewhat inferior to its predecessor which it tries to copy. A lot of strategy has been taken out of this game as slow towers, stun towers, and a few other towers as well as creep types have been taken out of the game. I played this game through on normal(all 100 waves) and beat it on the first try. Its a pretty easy game and you generally just have to rely on the diamond cutter towers since they are completely and utterly superior to everything else. Since there are no slow, stun, or boost towers in this game, its just a process of building a long maze and then upgrading to win. If your familiar with DTD, this game is easy.
