This walkthrough is for the game Life Ark 2 — build an interstellar spaceship to escape the dead planet.
So in the last piece about arcades and monetization, I wrote about the two kinds of arcades. While the first kind focuses on quality and is usually a long and drawn out process the 2nd type can be quick and does not require much investment.
Today we are going to focus on the 2nd type because well, its just more interesting to talk about than the traditional arcade which mostly relies on who has the most money to sponsor games.
In a debate at talkarcades.com, there was much discussion about the recent poor quality of traffic that trades produce. I almost laughed out loud when I saw this because the entire focus of traffic trading is not about maximizing user experience — its about maximizing the number of visitors to your site. The fact that you are bouncing visitors from site to site already makes user experience not so good. The reason this kind of arcade has such an advantage over the traditional arcade is because of its ability to multiply traffic. While the conversion rates on traffic do matter, these arcades should be so profitable that it doesn’t require meticulous tracking of how each trade partner converts. You just have to weed out the cheaters that are obviously sending you fake traffic. Now I traffic trade on some of my sites and in terms of money made to resources needed(servers and bandwidth) to keep the site running, the profit margin is 10:1 or even more. This should be the case with any traffic trading site. If you not at least garnering this much, your doing something wrong and need to re-examine your business model. This, however, does not include the costs of buying adwords that some sites in this category do.
I firmly believe that buying adwords is not the way to go in a traffic-trading site. You should focus most of your efforts on getting free search engine traffic by targetting specific keywords. You should target more than one keyword or phrase for site. For instance if your site is about ‘Car games’, you should target ‘car games’ but also create a section for ‘bike games’ and ‘truck games’ and target that specific sub-page to that term. A top 10 result in these terms will get you hundreds or thousands of free visitors per day. If you get good at SEO, its easy to make a 10:1 profit to costs ratio happen, regardless of what kind of traffic you are receiving on the other end of the trade, as long as its not fake.
Getting key link exchanges for your sub-pages is pretty critical to achieving large amounts of success as just focusing on 1 primary keyword or phrase will limit the room in which you grow.
You really don’t need a traffic trading script that costs thousands of dollars to be good in traffic trading. You just need a script that lets you keep track of how much you receive and how much you send out. The rest of the time should be spent on link exchanges, obtaining backlinks, and climbing up the SEO ladder.
Good luck.
Since I don’t have any game walkthroughs to write about for the last few days, I think I’m going to blog about how to make money in the arcade industry whether as a part-time hobby like most or as a full-time job like myself. There are two reasons to make an arcade site, they are:
1. To make a quality site with lots of gizmos and features
2. To make alot of money
Make sure you know which reason you are going in for because they will lead you in different directions. The big portals that sponsor games and have alot of features and gizmos are not the ones that make the most profit. It takes a lot of money to sponsor games and pay people to develop features unless you know how to develop them yourself. It is also a very long-term project unless you have lots of money to market your site right away. Getting visitors is not something you can do quickly and this type of site faces tough competition and larger barriers to entry than arcade sites that are mainly for making large profits. Visitors will enjoy your site but most won’t return as your average visitors just want to play a game and will not remember where he or she played it.
If you starting this kind of site, pick a good key-rich domain name, do a few link exchanges, submit game pages to popular social bookmarking sites, and sponsor a few games and hope for good long term results. However, if your going this route and you can’t develop games yourself nor do you have large amounts of money to promote it via sponsorships and advertising, don’t quit your dayjob, it going to take a long time before you can make any kind of decent income off your portal.
The 2nd type of site is one that is not focused on quality but on making maximum profit. This basically entails pushing the maximum number of visitors per day through your site. The focus is not to keep them coming back but rather just to push the maximum amount of traffic per day. This type of site often takes little to no money investment and the profit margin is far higher. In this type of arcade, it is very important to pick a key-word rich domain name for SEO purposes and link exchange with relevant sites to crawl up the search engine rankings. It is best to pick a niche like “car games” or “shooting games” and focus on getting good search results for that term. I repeat, link exchanging is key.
The other key to this type of site is traffic trading, a system where you send other sites hits in return for hits from their site(s). This way, you can turn 1 visitor into 5 and push a lot more traffic each day than a non traffic-trading site. Some of the best sites at doing this are sites like ballerarcade.com, meltgames.com, and bootyarcade.com.
You will need to program your own traffic trading script or buy one. You can get good ones off of talkarcades.com, as many members there sell traffic trading scripts. In this type of site, keep in contact with your big trading partners and watch your search engine results carefully and it does not take long(a few months) before you have a decently profitable arcade.
Whichever route you choose is your decision, but make sure you know your goal and go straight in that direction.

Bubble Cannon 2 is a unique game concept with a cannon shooting bubbles with different numbers and colors. The numbers on the bubbles are how many times the bubble must be hit in order to be popped. Only collisions between same-colored bubbles count and you have a certain number of bubbles you must pop before you get more bubbles. This game is mainly about setting the bubbles up in a way where you can pop them in groups. |
Unless its your final 1 or 2 bubbles, your concern should not be popping the bubbles but to group them so they can be popped several at a time. If you try popping them one at a time, you will eventually run out of bubbles before you pop the required amount to get more bubbles. The best way to do this is to group the bubbles into corners so when they bounce off the sides, they bounce back and hit each other several times per shot. Don’t be afraid to use different colored bubbles on each other. They may not pop each other, but using them to bump same colored bubbles into each other is a necessary strategy in the game. Good luck!

Vel.shock is a cool game where you don’t shoot but try to reflect bullets back to the turret that shot them in order to destroy them. There is a delay between each time you can use your shock power so use it carefully or you will be out when you need it the most. Where you reflect the bullets also has an impact as you want to aim the shock so the bullets go straight back to the turret that shot it. The best is to stand in the middle of a bunch of turrets and use it when all the bullets are getting near you. The closer you are to the turret, the better your chances are of reflecting a bullet back onto that turret. |
