Pop-under and visitors admin 5, March

A topic I often see in arcade webmaster forums is whether pop-unders that trigger on-click really effect visitors and bounce rate. Conventional wisdom(what everyone says) is that they have a huge effect on bounce and returning visitors. At first I believed this but then I ran some tests and found just the opposite. I do not use them now but have put them in from time to time and have found almost no difference in return visitors and bounce rate. When I checked with other people that have tested this, I found similar results. The most anyone ever reported was a 5% increase in bounce rates with no decrease in visitors per day. It seems that all arcade webmasters say that it has a huge effect because they haven’t tried it and that webmasters are more annoyed by these things than visitors are. I’ve also discovered that hardly any ad format has much of an effect.

Games for today:

1. Working Stiffs — Shoot the zombies and get to the roof

2. Ion Drift Epsilon — Drift and race around the track

3. Team Killer — A stickman fighting and sniping game.

Yan Loong Legend 2: 2nd impact Yan Loong Legend 2: 2nd impact is a great fighting action game with a unique combo system that is crucial to game success. You need to gain skills as a warrior and weapons in order to unleash powerful combos on foes. This game is well-balanced in gameplay and has very nice graphics. The combo system is often challenging and good combos are hard to execute but is very fun when you get the hang of it. The adventure is good and its worth a good few hours of gameplay. Below is a video showing you how to execute some of the combos.

Mario Combat Deluxe is a fun fighting game where mario(crappily sprited) needs to use kung fu moves and fireballs to beat up other mario-land characters. Although its not as good as the original mario combat, this game still does provide for some entertainment. The graphics, for one, are just not as smooth as the first version of this game and the combos and controls can feel jerky to the point of being annoying some of the time. However, this is still a decent beat-em-up flash production.

The main focus of this game is combos(which aren’t that well executed in this game). But chaining hits together, especially with your super move is pretty effective. Chaining kicks and punches with jumps is also pretty important as sometimes you can go into a jump-kick and then slide type of combo which can get you out of some sticky situations. naruto ng Naruto NG is a game made with Naruto sprites but completely destroys the storyline. In this game, someone has killed Sakura and Naruto goes beserk and kills everyone in his path in an attempt to find the killer. In this game’s course you will fight and kill Kakashi, Rock Lee, Neji, and several other friends in your bloodthirsty rampage. Its actually one of the better games I’ve seen done with Naruto Sprites but is still a bit clunky at times. The fighting system is pretty cool and the combo system is really good so I’d say give it a try.

The main trick to this game is to learn the combos. There are only three attack moves(and a special) so you’ll want to try to mix and match them until you find “good” or “great” combos. Usually a combination of fast punches and strong punches is a pretty good bet. Watch your super bar, you’ll always want to use it as many times it gives an almost instant win(which is kind of broken). This game is decent to play because of wanting see who you’ll fight next on your rampage. Other than that, its an average fighting game.

This tip is for the game Yan Loong Legend 2, a great fighting game with an awesome combo system. As you might have guessed, executing the correct combos are extremely important in defeating tough enemies. If your having trouble, this video may help.

zombie vs. Hamster Zombie vs. Hamster is a funky little fighting game where you choose between being the zombie or the hamster and have to fight the opposition. I played the hamster part all the way through and found that while the mechanics to this game are okay, the game was really repetitive. The enemies don’t get any harder the higher you move in the ladder and games basically just devolved into a lot of button mashing. It was pretty easy to beat the game and may be a good time-killer for 5 minutes or so, but not much to play after that.

To beat this game all you have to do is to mash the jump button ad the direction button going towards your opponent and mash the ‘z’ key as well and you will always pwn your opponent. Pretty simple.

Spear and Katana is a simple hacking and slashing game where you must outfight and outduel other warriors with your katana(I like katanas better than spears). Its quite simple, you use the arrows keys to move and click to slash. If you slash at the same time your opponent slashes, it cancels. You must keep moving around fast in order to keep from getting hit and try to come at your opponent from the back where he can’t defend. Its a bit of a frantic game when the fighting gets intense. I’ve posted a walkthrough video below for people who are having trouble.

Here is a video of someone beating the fighting game Super Mario Combat is a game where Mario gets some serious Kung-fu skills and goes to beat up koopas and bowsers. The game itself is pretty short but it is a decent fighting game as mario throws many punches and kicks. Here’s a video of someone beating the game.

double edge Double Edge is a cool fighting and hack’n'slash game where you play a hero sent to an undead kingdom to defeat its evil overlord before he overruns the land with his undead minions(sound familiar?). This game played a lot like the earlier “Achilles” game in that it was smooth and it had nice animations for hacking and slashing enemies, along with the blood and graphics. But as with all these games, after a while, it just stopped appealing to me any longer — I can only hack and slash for so long.

If you really enjoy these games, then give it a try, it’ll be good at least for a break between work stints.
