In-game advertising has become the standard in the market but there are several companies who provide it. The largest two are Mochi and CPMstar. While Mochi has a variety of services, for sponsors, its CPMStar that should be favored. Armorgames and some other large sponsors do not allow Mochi on their sites but are open to Star.

Star is better for sponsors generally because it offers shared revenue which means you can get part of the in-game ad revenue from the game whereas sponsors get none of it with Mochi. Star has a special system in place for this. Since the potential for in-game ad revenue can be quite large on a good game, this can make quite a difference in the time in takes to get a return on your investment into a game.

The other reason is that Star’s Ads are just better and more tolerable than Mochis. Many of mochi’s ads talk(like that Lysol commercial). Ads with sounds are just plain annoying to developers, sponsors, publishers, and most importantly, players. None of Star’s ads so far talk and they are all targeted towards gamers, which makes them superior.

For developers that need to or really want to use mochi’s services such as leaderboards, Mochi is the obvious choice. However, if your games get a large percentage of Non US and UK traffic, CPMSTAR is also the better choice. Unlike Mochi, they have ads for all countries. After talking to developers who use both Star and Mochi and get alot of international traffic, I found that the average eCPM for star is 3-4 times higher than Mochi overall and infinitely higher for Non-US/Western Europe countires(since Mochi’s eCPM for those countries ia almost 0.00). If you develop games in other languages aside from english, star is the way to go. Even if the sponsor is getting 30%-50% of in-game revenue, you will still be making more because of the high eCPM. My own mochi eCPM drops to less than 10 cents many days because of the geographical location of players. After checking with other authors who use star and have geographically diverse locations for players, their eCPM was on average twice to three times mine.

Looking at those results, its clear which one I should use in the future. I will probably make a mochi version to take a advantage of their distribution system but the main version I will distribute will be with CPMSTAR.

I will be testing star with my next few games in the coming weeks and will post results here(can’t vouch for shared ad revenue because I sponsor my own games and get 100% of everything).

Panda Star Panda Star is a cool game where you launch a panda into the air and try to hit all the stars. Game-play-wise, its nothing that I haven’t seen before but the graphics and sound are what bring this game home. You press space to launch the Panda into the air and space if you need an extra boost for the panda. Hitting stars also gives you an extra boost. If you run out of boosts and start falling, the game is basically over. This game also has many achievements which should keep you wanting to come back and play more.

My advice is to go for the highest stars first and pick up any others that are on the way. Sometimes you’ll need to hit one or two stars on the way to get to the highest one but I wouldn’t stray too much off course to hit the highest ones. Its best to beat this game without boosts, but sometimes you will have to use one. Good luck!

colored star catch Colored Star Catch is a unique multi-tasking game where you control a purple paddle and a yellow paddle and you must catch purple and yellow stars. However, you must catch the stars with the matching colored paddle or you lose a life. The game gets progressively harder as time goes on as the speed of the stars increases, bombs are added, and other things comes in to play. This game can be played with a friend but its meant to be played by one person

star baron Star Baron is a fun strategy game that is reminiscent of Nano wars where your stars generate resources and ships and you must send them to other planets to take them over from the enemy. There is a lot of strategy to this game as there are many types of planets and you must make use of each of them to be successful in the game. In particular, the defensive and economic planets are extremely important as you have to set these up right in order to produce more money(so you can have more ships and to act as a defense matrix for your other stars.

At the beginning of the campaign you will only have access to regular stars but as the campaigns go on, you’ll start to get access to specialized stars and thats where the fun begins. The first 3 levels or so, you can just group all your ships together, take over neutral stars, and then take out the enemy stars. You start with a tactical advantage, so these missions are easy. Starting with mission 4, you may not be able to do this. You will have to be better at micro-management. You will need to send ships to your stars that are under attack and micro where you send each star’s ship in order to take out weak enemy stars for you to gain an advantage on the field. You start out with a tactical disadvantage and will have to control your stars, take out the weak ones first before taking out the bigger ones and take advantage of opportunities right after the enemy attacks to gain the upper hand. As soon as you get access to the specialized stars, use them to your advantage. Put the defense stars in front, the AI will try again to take these but will fail. Then put cash stars in the back to boost up your economy with some naval stars in the middle. When your line advances, use the new stars as defense and convert the original defense stars to regulars, naval, or cash stars. Throw a few mining stars in there as well. Using this strategy is pretty successful. I advise you play on medium and fast speed as that is the mode I like to play on.
